Not much snow here in Moncton, Snowed Thursday then turn to rain and then a solid freeze. I`m not a fan of this yoyo temp (up, down) but what can you do!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the wierdest winters so far. Yo-yo temps all winter. We have 9 greens totally ice free and 9 greens have about 1/2 in of ice that formed Sunday. Crowns look good but I think I will cut a plug out next week and see what is what.

Not much ice down here at Mill Ridge. We do have some ice on some of our fairways but for the most part greens and tees are clear. Hoping the mild temps tomorrow can remove what little there is and then finally have a nice insulating snow that sticks around awhile! No sign of any disease to date either.

I thought I would update…we have an uncomfortable amount of ice on some of our greens. Put the darks sand to it, but these fluxuations in temps are really not helping. Any other suggestions for getting rid of the ice?

Same problem here in Moncton, a lot of it melted yesterday but not all. Fwy`s cleared up alright as drain`s and catch basins were not frozen and the water had somewhere to go but those greens, the ground is frozen solid so the ice was slow melting and water would just not go down through, some of it drained of but not all. I just wish mother nature would make up her mind HOT OR COLD!!!!!!

I have cut lines with a chainsaw through the ice to let water drain away. It can ruin a chain and there is a line or two to topdress in the spring but it will release some water. We are completely bare again. It has been great for moving around the course doing tree removal, but I worry a little with the yo yo temps.

Thought it was time to freshen up this thread a little bit.

Did a walk about today and things aren’t looking to bad at all. Not a sign of disease anywhere, although I must say the soccer field in Bridgewater is looking a very pretty shade of hot pink. After the last little blast of winter we do have some ice on the course, I was unable to get down through the ice to open all the drains but am able to hear the water running into them through the ice. Hopefully this little stint of early spring like conditions holds up to remove what small amount we do have out there. My only complaint is the amount of poa that stands out in the winter time on our fairways, definetly a reality check and something to rectify this season. Hope everyone else is fairing alright, can’t wait for next week!

The conference is now past us and we have the spring to gear up for. The snow is slowly receeding here in Moncton but the ice build-up continues to be an issue with all the rain we have been having over the last month. We were fortunate here in Moncton not to get the amount of snow they were calling for over night – it was mostly freezing rain though. With approx. 1 – 2 ft of snow presently on our greens, I have recorded temperatures between -1 C and 2 C on the surface. I will be anxious to get tarps off and a new season started. Hoping for milder days and an early spring.

Walked around the course yesterday and noticed very thick ice on # 2 fairway. At one point the ice is up to the bottom of the bench on # 2 tee. Number 1 fairway has alot of ice also, but the rest of the fairways seem to be fairing better. There is, in general, about 8″ of snow covering the course. The mild weather over the next few days should help to start baring the course up, especially if it is accompanied by a good breeze.

Another cool day in Monkey Town. Most of my greens are cleared off from southern exposure now with only the covers and straw to come off. Started taking ice shields and straw off my greens yesterday. It was a great melting day:) slow process though. Much of the straw was still frozen to the surface. Even with new Ice shields secured in place it’s still tough to get a tight seal and re-route water to shed off the sides. The straw holds the water and moisture like a sponge. No ice damage to date but some mould is present.
On a related note:) Thinking about holding a ice hockey tournament outside on Fwy #7 this afternoon. As a par 5 we could probably hold six games at once. Can anyone related!! Hee!
Well time to take more tarps off before we get hit with another Atlantic winter storm:) 10 – 15 cm and/or freezing rain expected… Thanks Mother Nature.

Same here across town Kevin, went around the course this morning and could see a little of everything grass, snow and ice!!! The grass I can see looks good, hope it stays that way. I don`t mind getting a little snow cover, I don`t like having the grass exposed this early in the spring with the cold night we are still getting!! This snow is probably not ideal for guy`s taking tarps off though, sorry Kevin!! Off to Mexico next week to rest up for the summer push. Hope everyone come out of winter well and an early start to the season, sorry seed salesman!!!!!!!

I have been around the course, and surprisingly with all of the ice, the turf looks good. A few small spots that definately had some ice problems, but really small in size.. Anyone else just take a budget cut.. I sure did!!!!!! Anyone knows of a few sheep looking for a home for the summer months. I am going to need the free cutting and fertilizing. Take care everyone!!!!
