 Kingswood Golf is looking to fill the position of Irrigation Technician

IRRIGATION TECHNICIAN

 Pay Rate: $12 – $15/HR

 Job Description: Working under direct supervision from the Assistant Superintendent, who is responsible to the Superintendent, will be responsible for regular maintenance, startup, and blowout of the entire irrigation system. The employee shall have a good knowledge of pump systems, controllers, fittings, watering practices and the ability to read and understand maps and technical bulletins.

Duties:

1. Assist with inventory of irrigation components.

2. Keep records of repairs and upgrades to the system.

3. Train other staff on safe operation of sprinkler heads.

4. Make repairs as needed.

5. Operate digging equipment such as trenchers or backhoes.

6. Spring startup and fall blowout of system.

7. Maintain good safety awareness.

 Education: A certificate or diploma from a program dealing with golf course irrigation would be an asset. On the job training is mandatory.

Clovelly is a forward thinking, high-end semi private facility featuring 36 holes. Clovelly’s Signature Course, “The Osprey” was designed by Graham Cooke and is now 15 years old. The executive eighteen “Black Duck” is entering its 14th year. Clovelly has a large active membership, substantial green fee play, Academy and numerous corporate events. It continues to grow in a thriving market, and is now one of Atlantic Canada’s busiest golf facilities.

Overall Responsibilities:

Manage all aspects of Clovelly golf and grounds maintenance inclusive of our Graham Cooke designed 18 hole signature Osprey Course and 18 hole Black Duck executive course, full practice facility, grounds surrounding the clubhouse and main entrance accents both on and off site as well as future developments.

Preference will be given to candidates posessing:

-A post secondary turfgrass management related degree or associate degree from a recognized college or university.

-A Class “A” designation with the CGSA and creeping bentgrass experience.

-Leadership qualities and excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

-A firm grasp of current technoligies and their impact on golf course management and the professional role of the superintendent.

-A firm grasp of all aspects of golf course maintenance and management including: Turf management and agronomy, administration, purchasing, budget preparation and execution, capital planning, human resources, as well as all activities associated with day to day course maintenance.

-Experience with all winter operations including all snow clearing and ice control.

-Experience working within an integrated management team. Possess the abilities to work closely with other departments and contribute to and participate in regular management meetings.

-Experience in hosting a major provincial or national championship or made for tv event would be considered an asset.

ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT – LOST CREEK GOLF CLUB

Lost Creek Golf Club, located in Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia (within Halifax Regional Municipality) is currently seeking to fill the position of Assistant Superintendent. This position is full-time seasonal from April through November.

The candidate must be energetic, reliable and possess a positive attitude.

This is an ideal situation for someone to acquire basic design from Lost Creek’s ongoing renovations, consisting of; rebuilding tee decks, cart paths, irrigation and drainage updates.

Employment Standards:

- Completion of two years post secondary turfgrass education or equivalent knowledge and experience

- Valid NS Pesticide Applicator’s License

- Valid NS Driver’s License

Typical Functions:

- Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways

- Schedule work, supervise the employees and use turf equipment

- Instruct equipment operators in the operation and care of mowing and other maintenance equipment

- Able to calibrate an/or operate pesticide application equipment

- Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of irrigation system

Mill Ridge Golf Course

Irrigation Technician, Spray Technician, General Labourer

Mill Ridge Golf Course is an 18 hole, private golf course located in Chester, Nova Scotia

Available Positions:

Irrigation Technician

 Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as necessary/ Troubleshoots electrical problems associated with a Rain Bird decoder system/ Proper implementation of hand watering to the golf course/ Reports directly to the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent.

Training Requirements:

 A working knowledge of an automated golf course irrigation system.

Employment Standards:

 Understanding of a Rain Bird Decoder system/ Basic understanding of water and its’ role within the turfgrass environment/ Possession of a valid driver’s license/ Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Spray Technician

 Applying pesticides to areas of the golf course as needed/ Applying fertilizers to area of the golf course as needed/ Calibration and maintenance to all application equipment/ Record keeping of all chemical applications/ Reports directly to the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent.

Training Requirements:

 Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a certified Nova Scotia pesticide applicators license

Employment Standards:

 Understanding of chemicals commonly applied to turf/ Understanding of different methods used in the application of chemicals to turf/ Possession of a valid driver’s license/Ability to follow oral and written directions.

General Labourers

 Operation of mowing equipment/ Maintenance of all areas found on a golf course/ Other manual labour tasks as required/ Reports directly to the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent.

Training Requirements:

 An understanding of different methods used within landscape maintenance, preferably within a golf course environment.

Employment Standards:

 Ability to perform tasks involving manual labour/ Possession of a valid driver’s license/ Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Resort/Golf Course Superintendent

Reports to General Manager

Overall Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of Resort grounds maintenance including golf courses, condo hotel grounds, residential development and future developments.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Manage all areas of the golf course maintenance including agronomy, human resource, course enhancements as well as all day to day activities concerning course maintenance.
  • Work closely with Golf Services Manger to accommodate groups, manage golf traffic and conduct tournaments & events.
  • Work closely with Resort Manger in developing policies and procedures, designing course enhancements and managing all budget items.
  • Work closely with Resort CFO in organizing accounting procedures for all grounds maintenance procedures.
  • Work closely with On-Course F&B Manager in assuring proper service to all golfing customers. This would include necessary equipment maintenance, minor building maintenance and transportation and set up of on course stations.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all Resort grounds.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all residential development grounds.
  • Supervise construction and subsequent maintenance of all future exterior grounds project associated with resort development.
  • Assist Resort manager and Building Maintenance manager with specific construction projects associated with Resort development.
  • Manage all equipment and supplies related to grounds maintenance for the entire resort operation.
  • Manage all maintenance of highway and resort signage.
  • Supervise all snow clearing, ice control etc… associated with winter operations.
