December 2011
Brian Gouthro, AGSA President – Ashburn Golf Club
I would like to thank Past President Dave Davey for all his work as President. It was a busy year and he guided us through it. Dave still has work to do as Past President and he has agreed to continue to serve on the Plant Health Atlantic Board. Well done Dave!
I hope the golf season went well for everyone and we all enjoy the down time that winter brings. That is not to say we won’t be busy repairing and sharpening equipment, snow removal, re-furbishing golf course furniture and attending various educational opportunities.
For those attending conferences… the CGSA and GCSAA conference dates have switched. Our CGSA turf conference is Feb. 5-9 in Calgary with the american show Feb. 27 – March 2 in Las Vegas.
Our own Atlantic Turfgrass Conference is in Halifax at the Lord Nelson Hotel from February 21-23. The committee has done a great job putting together a strong educational program and our suppliers will show us what is new and exciting. Take this opportunity to network and and meet old friends.
December is also a time when we try to gather with industry partners for a little lunch and a few laughs. Kevin Wentzell has sent out an invitation to the Moncton area guys and I hear other invites are on the way. I enjoy a great time talking turf with fellow professionals.
John Mills has organized another Curling day on Friday, January 20th in Pugwash. There were 24 participants last year and this is on my “To-Do” list for 2012.
The AGSA website has been totally re-designed. It has an exciting look with lots of new features and more to come. Check out “Bob’s Shop” a new blog for our equipment techs. There are links to various golf related forums and research areas, as well as job postings and ads. The members’ only section willl be available shortly. Hopefully this area will provide some lively and interesting debate. We are always looking for new photos and content for the site… so don’t hesitate to contact an AGSA director or Mark Perry (mperry38@hotmail.com) who will be maintaining the site.
Enjoy the Holidays and Seasons Greetings
